Hi! My name is Rachel. I am a single mom to a special needs child who is on the autism spectrum. He is my entire world. I initially began making figures out of Play-Doh for my son to encourage him to communicate, as he is nonverbal. We would look up his favorite characters online, and I would use clay to create a handheld-sized version of what he chose. The way his eyes light up when he sees what I have made for him truly feeds my soul.
When his teacher saw the figures that he took with him to school, she told me that I should make them smaller and they could be earrings. So that’s what I did! I made about a hundred pairs of silly earrings and donated them to the special needs classroom for the kids to sell at the holiday craft fair in the gymnasium. This helped the kids learn how to handle money.
What do you know….they sold out! I was elated to have been able to help out, and to know that people out in the real world would be enjoying my little creations. So I kept on keeping on, lol. I have really found a passion for my artsy side and I make earrings every day now in addition to the figures that I still make daily for my little boy. His favorites are Vikings, by the way 😊.
When I realized that I wanted to market my silly stuff I realized that I needed a name. Well…..the stuff I make is silly, right? Plus, I am always telling folks that they can go ahead and get into the pond if they are going to be a silly goose. Hence…..I became The Silly Guuse. Why two u’s? When I used an AI filter to create my logo, it accidentally shaved off the tops of the o’s in the text. I liked it. It felt fitting. So I decided to keep it that way!
I have even started creating pins, rings, bracelets, necklaces, and even keychains using epoxy resin as well as the polymer clay. I am a woman obsessed. You can routinely spot me with paint on my wrists or elbows from staying up too late working on my next project! You may even see some of my tiny paintings for sale on here. I call them my mini-memes. They are basically just cartoon characters in memorable moments from their shows.
I hope that you find smiles in the things I create, and maybe even purchase yourself something while you are here. Thanks for visiting, and remember…..Smiles are free, so spread them around as much as you can. Kindness matters!
